Joy moved here from Nigeria in 2015 with two children – now ages 12 & 9 – and last year had a healthy baby boy who is now 5 months old. In addition to caring for her three children, she works fulltime as a Behavioral Technician in a hospital setting and goes to school part time.
While pregnant with her youngest child, she accepted Healthy Start services including counseling. The services included teaching her techniques to make her feel safe. Joy stated “my counselor gives me confidence, stabilizes my mood and encourages me to talk about my problems”.
We are proud of Joy and her family as they are a great example of how Healthy Start Services can improve the lives of participants, making them healthier and happier.
