Welcome to Healthy Start’s Infant Safe Sleep program, Beds 4 Babies, a life saving initiative designed to support families in our community. We understand that welcoming a new baby is both joyful and challenging, and having a safe sleep environment is essential for your little one’s wellbeing.
Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep. Our program provides eligible families with a free Pack ‘n Play portable crib along with education on safe sleep practices that can help protect your baby during their most vulnerable first year of life.
From the moment they are born, babies count on their parents and other caregivers to keep them safe. Yet a healthy baby suffocates while sleeping unsafely every month in Pinellas County. It only takes one time for a baby to sleep in an unsafe place or position to be deadly. Babies need to be protected from suffocation when they are laid down to sleep – every night, every nap, and every time.
Eligibility:
- Pinellas County resident.
- At least 28 weeks pregnant.
- You must participate in a safe sleep education and assembly demonstration.
- Not already enrolled in another program providing a safe sleep solution.
- Quantities are limited. Other eligibility criteria may also apply.
If you are a Pinellas County resident in need of a safe place for your baby to sleep, please call or text Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas at 727-512-3740 available Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, or complete the form below.
It’s not SIDS, it’s SUID.
The Beds 4 Babies Project aims to save lives by preventing infant sleep-related deaths due to suffocation or asphyxiation, particularly in Pinellas County, where there has historically been a high prevalence of such tragedies. According to the District Six Medical Examiner’s office, an average of 10 babies die each year from these causes, often due to a lack of safe sleep supplies and education. To address this, the project educates parents and caregivers about safe sleep guidelines while providing portable cribs, known as pack and plays, which are easy to assemble and can be used for sleeping or as a playpen during the first year of life. The program focuses on families in need of a safe sleep environment, assessing their requirements and reinforcing safe sleep education to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) and deaths from co-sleeping.
