Zenaida

Zenaida is a mother of four girls, ages 16, 12, 7 & 14 months old. During her pregnancy with Alexa (picture to the right), she was contacted by Healthy Start to receive home visitation services. Her Healthy Start care coordinator, Aida Sanchez, provided a nutritionist who helped Zenaida control her diabetes by losing weight and improving her eating habits. In addition, Zenaida received doula services with Mari Villavicencio. Mari was her interpreter at medical appointments, prepared her for the delivery, and supported her.

Healthy Start made sure Alexa had a safe place to sleep by providing a pack n play and safe sleep education. Zenaida was also made aware of other resources such as family recreational activities, free health screenings, and information about Habitat for Humanity who will guide her and her husband into being homeowners.

Zenaida stated “I certainly recommend the Healthy Start program to pregnant women and also after their baby is born. All the coordinators that I had were attentive, professional, and very well received by my family.”With support, counseling, nutritional education, doula services and safe sleep education, Alexa was born happy and healthy.
